I just read in the D&C the Department of Environmental Conservation says current dedicated funds will be used to buy 3-mile-long Canadice Lake and 7-mile-long Hemlock Lake. http://www.democratandch...anadice-lakes-from-city

I try to fish Hemlock a few times a year, and love the setting, and at first thought, "now it will be wild forever". But after some more thought, and a cocktail, I have started to worry... With the current fiscal problems in the state, and the dirtbags in the capital, could we see McMansions on the shores and jetskis on the water?

What say you?

As long as it stays pristine I guess I am all for it if Rochester got the price it deserves. Other than that, mansions and jet skis wouldn't happen, or at least I'd like to think we wouldn't allow it.

I think its a good idea to keep the lakes the same but how much will it cost the taxpayers to keep the developers out. Right now this state is broke. we don't need anymore state take overs to please the special interest. we have to get our budget in line with our spending.

Nothing that pristine can last very long in New York if politicians get involved.I knew it wouldn't last long, Eagles flying around, huge majestic hardwoods along the shores, crystal clear water, awesome fish habitat.

Maybe Scott Brown can save the water shed too.

Here is a positive note-

Canadice Supervisor Kris Singer is celebrating.

She got news last week that a big land deal in her town escaped a statewide spending freeze.
“It’s the crowning moment in all my years as supervisor. I never expected this right now. I was like, ‘Yes!’” said Singer. “Once this goes into (state Department of Environmental Conservation) hands it stays wild forever and ever, amen.”

Thanks Baub, a small victory for those of us interested in keeping this area wild. I have enjoyed it for years and now my son and daughter are hunting and fishing there. I remember watching a mature Bald Eagle attack an Osprey carrying a small trout the Osprey had just scooped outta the water next to my boat. Ya don't see this stuff just anywhere. Wish I had a movie camera that day.
