I'm thinking about lake-run browns and 'bows.

No complaints; the inland action has been pretty good. So far the catt and genny have been more than generous. Lottsa' trout in the mid-upper teens with my biggest being a 22" rainbow. Dark elk hair caddis have been consistently catching fish either dead-drifted, swung, or stripped. Nothing beats a big, greedy trout sucking a tiny dry from the surface or whacking a Special on the swing. But then again, the mind does wander...

Some of the trout I've caught are about the same size as the streamers I use for the lake-run. It's a completely different ballgame; the brute force of 30" fish is a rush. Options include water as big as the lower Nigara River to as small as the local trickle trib. Big gear, hard runs, and angry trout; what's not to love?

I can think of places where the trout fishing is better than WNY, but I can think of a whole lot more places where there isn't any, or it really sucks. We got it pretty good.

It's almost kinda' close to fall, right?

How about no solitude, on stream arguments, internet arguments over whose gear is better and who has the smaller johnson, egg sack mesh/line/sinkers all over the ground, fights, and blatant snagging, etc. Yep you guys can have your lake run fishing.

You forgot -guy who gets fly eaten by his dog at streamside -guy fly fishing who kicks all his fish back into water from the shore -guy in your honey hole with saltwater tackle whilst smoking pot and guy with "stream rage" that stink eyes you all morning because you are not "god" when it comes to fly fishing skill. Sarcastic post out of my system, back to fishing.Blink

Funny how even though the warmwater fishing for walleye and bass out on the lake is still quite good, I can't help my thoughts drifting to steel as well! In the springtime it's great to get out and chase them after the long winter, but with thoughts of later spring and summer I'm usually OK to say goodbye to them and get excited about getting the boat out on the water. Seems the steelhead bug bites quickly, though, because as soon as late summer arrives I start thinking again about being on the tribs with a little refreshing chill in the air, the colors of autumn painting the trees nearby, and the shock from that first silver bullet ripping line off my reel!

Of course, the crowds are the worst and can easily spoil it. But they do always get at least a little better with the start of buck season and colder weather- even if it can be hard to wait that long!
